David Holmgren will present a public program for the Sunshine Coast and
adjoining regions entitled 'Regional Sustainability in the Energy Descent
Future' at Lecture Theatre 1, University of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs
Drive, Sippy Downs on Sunday 20th August from 7.00 pm.

Energy descent challenges us to find local solutions that suit the
particular nature of sites and cultural contexts. The era of cheap and
plentiful oil is over! It took us 125 years to use the first trillion
barrels of oil. We¹ll use the next trillion in 30 years. What then??

Universal recipes will no longer work. From a bottom up perspective,
particular local, integrated and multi-faceted solutions can be found.

Permaculture is the best available framework for re-designing the way we
think and act to resolve the energy crises.

The presentation will empower citizens and communities to creatively
respond to the end of cheap energy. David will show how to focus media and
public attention on local groups, networks and businesses that are providing
resources for both awareness and positive solutions and will draw on the
incredible success of permaculture as a grass roots global movement to
illustrate a diverse range of strategies and solutions that people can
implement at home and in their local and regional communities. In so doing
David will introduce and discuss the concept of re-localisation.

Admission will be $10.00 for the general public, $8.00 for concessions and
members of Permaculture Noosa and the Maroochy Community Permaculture Group
and free for University of the Sunshine Coast students.
