hilly country (we are talking about Tasmania after all!) but the soil
is pretty good and land prices VERY reasonable by mainland or
Hobart/Launceston standards.<br>

When I was living in Tasmania the cheaper land was in the foothills of
the Western Tiers in the north of the state. This is hilly country and
that might influence the viability of your planned farming enterprise.
It is also cold in winter when the cold air mass atop the Central
Plateau spills over and descends the escarpment of the Tiers.

There is also good land, though more expensive, around Hobart in the
south of the state and further south again in the Huon Valley and
adjacent coast.

Land on the Bass Strait coastal plain inland of Burnie, Penguin and
Devonport is pricier. You might want to check out the Sheffield area
too.
