h
market has its own identity but the purpose is universal. Farmers=B9 markets
put fresh food and the control of its production back into the hands of
those who grow, rear and produce it, providing a viable alternative channel
in the current, highly concentrated food supply system. Farmers=B9 markets
offer consumers fresh, healthy food and another way of shopping that is not
dominated by industrial food heavyweights.

Farmers=B9 markets are undoubtedly an integral component of local economic
development, especially in regional Australia and address critical issues
like sustainable agriculture, regional development and revitalisation of
both urban and rural communities, bio-diversity, and food security.

Keynote speaker at the Market Power conference will be American Mark Winne
an international expert on local food systems who is currently a member of
the New Mexico Food and Agriculture Policy Council. His 26-year career has
focused on the development of food policy, sustainable local food systems,
farmers=B9 markets and allied community food projects.

This international perspective will be augmented by Ian Thomas, New
Zealand=B9s largest free-range egg producer, who attributes his business
success largely to his farmers=B9 market participation. Australian farmers=B9
market managers, food producers and food practitioners will present success
stories and case studies, and debate the challenges facing the vibrant
farmers=B9 market movement.

The two-day conference will deliver leadership and practical information,
celebrate business achievements, set new horizons and establish networks.
Delegates will also be treated to delicious Hume Murray regional produce an=
d
the wines of Brown Brothers.
