Leaked industry plan reveals go slow for CDL, according to NGO

The beverage industry's plan to combat the growing support for container
deposit legislation in WA, called Project Jet, has been leaked to
environmental NGOs.
"It's certainly a find for us as we now know what the industry is up to,"
said Total Environment Centre director Jeff Angel. "We aren't going to fall
for the industry tactics of stalling and injecting misleading information."

The plan for the Packaging Stewardship Forum includes tactics such as
introducing pilot programs that will slow down implementation; alliances
with retailers, waste management providers and some councils; advocacy to
senior decision makers; and a 'time to talk' strategy designed to neutralise
community support.

Also, the TEC has obtained documents that suggest Orange City Council's
plans for a new landfill at Molong in NSW's central west are being pushed
ahead despite expert advice. The reports, obtained under Freedom of
Information laws, recommend the landfill should not proceed because there
will be no justifiable demand for at least 10 years and "reprocessing" at
the existing landfill should be explored instead.
