FFA's brochure starts with a heading
Understanding FOOD INSECURITY
Why families go hungry in an affluent society
Just a developing country problem? Think again ...

I went to a meeting of Food Fairness Illawarra [which recently changed its name to something forgettable] this week; the two guest speakers were from Foodbank and ozharvest. Both are charities which collect up excess food from various sources [supermarkets, manufacturers] and distribute it to charities which feed hungry people. Both have website.

Foodbank has 5 paid employees, numerous volunteers, large donors of goods, a savvy board of directors, and handles thousands of tons of food which might otherwise go to landfill.
The quantities staggered me e.g.
300 pallets of McCains chips. I wondered what the potato growers of Tasmania would think of this, having just signed a contract to supply potatoes to McCains at a lower price, scarcely covering growing costs.
