COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR FAMILIES WORKSHOP

This email is to let you know the latest news and training information from
the UnitingCare Burnside Training Program.

Community development is becoming a fundamental requirement for traditional
services working with families due to the increasing community isolation.

This workshop will explore the role of community development in supporting
community strengths, building connections, and increasing participation of
local people in community & neighbourhood settings.

Participants will: ·         explore how community development initiatives
can be used in neighbourhood, school and organisational settings ·
identify ways to get community members involved with local initiatives ·
discuss how to build sustainability in local areas ·         discuss ways to
deal with the frustrations of working with challenging communities and
engaging the hard to reach community members

Narelle Patterson is currently employed in Burnside as a Policy Officer with
the Social Policy and Advocacy Program. She has worked for 11 years in the
areas of social policy, advocacy and social justice.  She is currently
completing a Masters in International and Community Development at Deakin
University.
