Perhaps ecovillages or well-organised permaculture-oriented neighbourhoods might apply here. Please consider making a nomination.

Subject: Re: Suburban database
Dear Colleagues,
As a fragment of a larger research project I am forming a database of exemplary suburban masterplans in both the USA and Australia, two countries
where suburban sprawl is the dominant cultural landscape.
In order to do this I'm asking subscribers to nominate projects they think
are worthy of consideration.
By "exemplary" is meant designs that challenge orthodoxy in some significant manner at either masterplan or detail design scales; projects that challenge regulatory, social, ecological and aesthetic conditions in some way. To nominate projects doesn't mean you endorse them entirely or even like them, but that they contain some evidence of design innovation which gives form to basic smart growth principles such as;
1. minimizing adverse land use impacts
2. maximizing positive land use impacts
Once collated, the list of suburban projects will be re-issued to the server
for reference. Its entirely possible that such a list already exists and if
so, please point us to it.
Many thanks
