The news that sugarcane smut fungal disease has been found on 12 properties in and around Childers in Queensland is a worry.
Apparently there was a previous small scare.

One wonders where these devastating diseases come from.
There was the citrus canker in mandarins near Emerald, Qld,  and Fiji disease somewhere else.

Why, one wonders, is the federal government so anxious to remove our barriers to imported fresh produce to protect our producers against these diseases.

Bananas from the Philippines?  Apples from NZ?   No thanks.

I saw snow peas from China in Aldi last week!  Fortunately, shops are now obliged to reveal the source of the produce so consumers can buy Australian.
