we can run "permaculture open garden scheme" ie showcasing
what some people have achieved in their backyards/properties. We could
pick a month eg November when things should be growing well, and get a whole
lot of gardens on the list, so we can blitz and offer the venue, or
alternatively for next year, actually put the gardens into the Open Garden
Scheme, perhaps asking Peter Cundall or Jerry Coleby from Gardening
Australia for advice? Sue

It is not a case of 'putting the gardens into the OGS. Gardens are
nominated, inspected and, if the organisers think they are suitable, THEN
they go into the booklet for the following year. I think the book [about
$14] comes out about March each year and is different every year. Some
gardens only appear once, others are there for years, but I think they like
change

The Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama Councils used to run a combined
Garden Competition with various categories, and simultaneously [with
different judges] another with a name like Waste Wise Gardens which were
judged on things like recycling, water saving, etc.

But possibly through lack of interest or entries, or not enough volunteers
to run them, they folded up.

[Brag book: I won prizes in both for years, but never the championship
garden. One year I won 10 sm of pavers from one sponsor, but it would have
cost me $140 to pay the cartage from Sydney! so needless to say I didn't
collect that prize.]
