Thanks for that info Anne. As it turn out I haven't got to it quickly
enough, so am cutting it up for the dog to chew on. but will probably have
another some time, so will try to be prepared next time.

on consulting an informed friend. He said it is hard work, you have to make
sure the hide is very clean of meat, get a tanning kit (did not say were
from). Also if you don't tan the hide within a day, it has to be cured or
the fur will start falling out apparently. am sure you could find
instructions on internet.

Can anyone provide information on tanning? I have small hide salvaged from a
calf that died, and would like to try tanning it - just for experience. No
idea where to start. Any advice would be appreciated, or leads to
