"The secret to helping hundreds? Help one person who has a dream." Dr.
Ernesto Sirolli, Sirolli Institute International Inc.
Delegates at a special one-day conference on 28th November at the Maritime
Museum will discuss Enterprise FacilitationR the Sirolli Institute's model
approach which captures the dreams of local people. Through 'Enterprise
Facilitation', civic leaders learn how to respond to local people who have
aspirations for self-employment. The program trains a full-time, local
advisor - the Enterprise Facilitator - to introduce the fundamentals of good
management to aspiring entrepreneurs and small business operators within the
community.
The inaugural Enterprise Facilitation project was pioneered in Esperance WA
in 1985. Chair of the project, Barrie Stearne, who contributed to the
massive success as a volunteer for the last 20 years, said almost 2000
serious entrepreneurs from Esperance had come into contact with the
Enterprise Facilitation concept.
"We are proud to say almost 800 businesses - or 60 per cent of the
entrepreneurs we met are still running successful, sustainable operations
and have contributed more than $190 million in revenue to the local
economy", Mr Stearne said. "We have average almost 40 new business start
ups a year consistently in the last 20 years, which is quite a track record
given Esperance has a population of just 13,500 people."
The conference, supported by STARTTS, will particularly appeal to those in
local authorities, local economic development agencies and neighbourhood
renewal areas.
