REBIRTH OF A POPULAR TEXT
There is much hollow and politically expedient talk about values from some
prominent figures who sometimes appear to suffer from a deficiency of them.
They would do well to learn from Rosemary Morrow, a woman, an exemplar, who
has acted on her personal values for the betterment of ordinary people in
Australia and overseas.
When the first edition of Rosemary's Earth Users Guide to Permaculture
appeared in 1994 it was received with critical acclaim as a timely book of
particular value to those new to the Permaculture design system and
especially to students of Permaculture.
The book has remained popular and has been used as a textbook by trainers
offering the Permaculture Design Certificate. Not long after publication of
the first edition, Rosemary released a training manual based on the Earth
Users Guide. This was the first Permaculture teaching manual to be published
in a popular, accessible format.
Since writing the first edition, Rosemary has taught more design courses and
has furthered her international community development work in Cambodia and
Vietnam. This experience she has fed into her new edition, which also
includes fresh material on a community-based approach to disaster
preparedness and community security in our changing times.
The new, updated edition serves as a text, just like the first edition,
however it is more than a text book. The Earth Users Guide to Permaculture
is a life-manual detailing simple, practical steps we can take to make our
lives and the neighbourhoods we live in convivial, productive and
sustainable places.
The Earth Users Guide to Permaculture is published by Kangaroo Press and is
available from bookshops now. Read it and be alert and informed about
solutions, not alarmed.
