Hi Carol
Thankyou for the lovely message!
The Otway PDC is an intensive PDC, but not a residential one.
It moves around, and people are staying at a mixture of places, and at
times being billeted out. I think in this way, they get to learn more
about the community, rather than staying at one property/ accommodation
place.
Also some of the days I've structured as individual workshops that people
can enrol in them separately (if they wish), this means that these
workshops have to be able to stand on their own, as well as be part of the
flowing PDC syllabus. It means that the tutors will have a fresh lot of
people each day that they'll be working with, along with those doing the
whole PDC. Both John, Phil & myself are use to running short workshops, as
well as longer education courses, so this format suits us all fine.
It does mean that the students will probably not develop a strong group
connection, but I've found from experience of participating in residential
intensives that although during this intense period you may develope strong
group connections, this dissipates after the course (as the participants
return to their daily life) and is rarely utilised in a practical manner
again.
>From my knowledge a PDC hasn't been run this way before... so I'll see how
it goes, assess it and give you feedback from it.
So happy that I inspired you!
Cheers
Fern
Wow Fern!
Your PDC sounds awesome. Wish I could just zip down there and join you.
Just wanted to say congratulations and I know you'll get plenty of
enthusiactic students for this one.
I'm currently putting together curriculum for my very first PDC. and would
have loved to run it as a residential but the venue fell through so I'm
rethinking through running it over weekends at the local environmental ed
centre, and possibly for two weeks over the summer holidays if I can get
enough interest from local teachers.
I was a bit bummed out about not being able to use the venue I'd dreamed of
but
your email reminded me that I too have managed to get some awesome teachers
to present for me at various locations and it sounds so great it's given me
some extra inspiration to get back on track with my planning. Thanks for
the energy boost.
Have fun with your course.
Cheers,
Carol.
