Permaforest Trust            August 2007 Update

Hi Folks,

We started up our final semester of residential Accredited Permaculture 
Training (APT) at the Trust's centre at Barkers Vale with a full house. Lots 
of new faces and great new people. We seem to have gotten off to a flying 
start with the community system hitting equilibrium in record time. For 
those of you who missed it in the last update, we are moving the APT program 
to Byron Bay in 2008 to focus on community post carbon transition education 
and training. Below are some of the highlights at Permaforest Trust from the 
last month by topic.

2008 Accredited Permaculture Training Program:
  a.. Permaforest Trust is partnering with Ethos Foundation 
http://www.ethosfoundation.org/FoundationDefault.aspx to create a 
bioregional campus for training and mentoring 'post carbon professionals'. 
Permaforest Trust will provide a core education program and Ethos Foundation 
will focus on career/enterprise mentoring, internships and counseling. This 
initiative is a great way for people to skill up and hit the ground running 
in the emerging professions facilitating community transition.
  a.. We have secured the Balcony Room at the beautiful Byron Bay Community 
and Cultural Centre for the classroom theory day each week of the APT 
course. By attending 16 of these sessions people can attain a Permaculture 
Design Course. These sessions will be free to members of the public on a one 
off basis, and there will be discounts and scholarships to youth, pensioners 
and single parents who would like to attend on an ongoing basis. See PDC

  a.. Activity Based Training will begin at the Byron Youth Centre, where 
Permaforest Trust is participating in a community design process for a 
Community Precinct which is envisioned to include health and aboriginal 
services, youth services, community art space, market and festival 
facilities and a community garden. This project is in its early stages and 
it will provide a hands on example of community development for APT 
students.

  a.. Our new 'Low Fi is the New Hi Fi' Series of presentations was featured

insightful YouTube video of a discussion by David Holmgren for the

  a.. Derek (Des) Ashby wrote an article for our web site about how he set 
up his design business after graduating from the Diploma in Accredited 
Permaculture Training at The Permaforest Trust in 2006
