  Shelter NSW
presents a
  conference on

Climate change. How does it involve low-income households? When: 9.00 to 4.30 on Thursday, 15 November
Where: Wilkinson Building, 148 City Road, Darlington, Sydney.

Climate change affects all Australians and the impacts will be social as well as environmental and economic. It will affect where houses are built and how houses are built. It will affect how houses are used. It could affect the cost of living in our houses. These changes will affect low-income households differently from high-income households. The changes present challenges, and they present opportunities. Low-income households need not be passive objects of climate change and of the accompanying policy changes: they can be active agents in promoting environmental sustainability.

This 1-day conference will explore issues like:

climate change and energy and water consumption - what is happening and what are the social issues?
regulators and watchdogs - how do we assess and address social impacts?
energy and water use and conservation - what is being done to involve low-income households?
environmental planning and housing - where do we build houses?
climate change and housing - how do we design new houses?

This conference will be of interest to water and energy utilities, environmental organizations, community welfare organizations, providers of affordable rental housing, tenant organizations and activists, urban planners, architects and builders, and policy makers.
