Hi All,

This morning I read (link to article below), to my intense annoyance and 
frustration, that in Bali, our PM is backing the push by the US to have 
percentage targets removed from the statement being drafted in Bali, 
which says that wealthy nations will need to cut emissions by between 25 
and 40% by 2020 (Article in The Age today - Gore Blasts US Obstruction - 
http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/gore-blasts-us-on-bali/2007/12/13/119

). To me this is ridiculous and frightening - arguing over such things 
when we face such serious problems. Where is the real leadership??????

I have emailed the PM's office, expressing my  frustration and 
disappointment - perhaps if enough people do this in the next 24 hours, 
the Australians will see that we want to see real leadership, not just 
over-glorified signings of the Kyoto Protocol, that may now be revealing 
themselves as having little real substance.

Below is the message I sent, fyi. I suggest you fully word your own 
message however - do not simply cut and paste this one.

'I am appalled and quite disgusted to read this morning that Prime 
Minister Rudd is having Australia back the US's position regarding 
removal of percentage targets on emission cuts in the non-binding 
statement currently under negotiation. It seems that Mr Rudd's early 
action in ratifying Kyoto which seemed so promising in terms of 
Australia's future action and leadership on climate change, might have 
just been hot air.

Real leadership would see Australia taking a firm stand for real targets 
and real action, immediately, on this issue, and politely, publicly 
encouraging the US to do the same'.
