g'day martin,

very persistant weed nut grass, when we builod our raised beds we lay thick 
newspaper to supress it and this works almost exclusively, but once it is 
into a garden bed unless you want to re-lay the bed that is pulls all plants 
out then cover with newspapser and mulch as we do then the only way around 
beating it is to maybe cover what you can and then as the rest sticks its 
head (on a daily basis if need be) up cut the tops off leaving some green 
and paint or apply neat glypho', it's this or let the nut grass thrive, you 
will need to keep doing this until it stops growing and then don't dig those 
areas. weed mat won't work and we found a complete waste of money in the 
face of free newspaper.

or you can start harvesting the nuts and eat them steamed after peeling much 
like potatoes, that's how we got the stuff bought in by early settlers from 
asia where they use it as food.
