Hi everyone,
Jim of Jim's Mowing has seen that mowing lawns is not sustainable into the
future, and with this thought in mind he approached Dan Palmer and Rick
Coleman to conduct an Introduction to permaculture course for 26 of his
Jim's Mowing Franchisees. The weekend course was well received, and both Jim
and the franchisees were interested in completing a PDC course that would
enable them to use the name permaculture in their business.
Initially we encouraged Jim to call the franchise Jim's Permaculture
Gardening, but Jim is more interested in being able to offer the whole
concept of permaculture design for clients, from house retrofitting, water
tank and solar installations, and he felt Jim's Permaculture Gardening
would limit this potential. He also believes that it adds to the impression
that permaculture is about gardening, which is a misconception many of us in
the permaculture community have tried to clear up.
Jim is fully aware of the ethics of permaculture, and is committed to
providing an ethically based business enterprise. Rick and I believe that
this is an excellent way to bring permaculture into the mainstream, and it
will provide opportunities for more people in permaculture to join a known
brand to promote what they do.
A full PDC is being conducted over weekends starting in July through to
September 2007. Jim has established a skeleton website and will add to the
website once he has the PDC certificate. He is aware that all franchisees in
future must have completed a PDC, if they wish to be involved in Jim's
Permaculture.
