Hi Susan
The PDC isn't actually a pre-requisite. However the PDC can fit into both
Cert III and Cert IV as foundation training. In the initial years of
offering APT Cert III and IV, here at Djanbung we had the PDC as a
pre-requisite due to the number of participants who had previously done a
PDC. Now we include the PDC in the accredited training at these levels.
Naturally the full certificate courses go into much greater depth of detail,
depending on which certificate, electives and the associated skills and
knowledge levels required.
You're right re the AQTF standards. Cert III is like the former trade
certificate for people involved mainly in implementation services capable of
working autonomously or under minimal direction. The APT Cert IV covers
basic urban and garden design, project coordination, team supervisors and
community development. The Diploma is a higher standard again for
professional designers and includes management skills. Much of the APT
diploma focuses more on community development facilitation and planning. The
diploma pre-requisite is the Cert IV core units.
Hope this has helped clarify.
I think it would be great if pc trainers with the relevant skills could team
up and provide post-PDC Cert III training as a part-time course, not only
for Jim's workforce but others in similar areas of work and to help existing
PDC graduates up-skill themselves. I have a strong feeling the world will be
needing a lot of highly skilled permies to make the big transition to a more
sustainable society.
Ciao
Robyn
