Permaculture Trade Resource Directory

Hello all,

I am getting some great feedback off-list from interested parties, so thanks
for these encouraging remarks, and for registering your interest (and your
details).

The concept is barely conceived (oops!), so I am now wondering what format
the directory may take.
Doubtless there will also be a CD version to stand alongside a hardcopy
version. (Worry not, Australia has more than enough plantation timber to
supply doemestic needs plus some exports: learned that on the Tarkine
trail!).

A practitioner's register is certainly one way to go; and it makes me
wonder if there exists somewhere lists of everyone who has done a PC design
course in Australia....as it would be a possible way of contacting graduates
and asking if they have any skills they would like to market, via the PC
trade directory.
If anyone has kept lists of those people they have taught, and would like to
either:
(a) forward such lists, or
(b) contact those on the list and forward this email to them,
that would be much appreciated, as perhaps that is a step in the right
direction. Warning: If you are a prolific teacher, expect to be contacted!
(If I can find you).
I suppose also, that a basic questionnaire for previous course participants
re skills, specialialisations and interests, etc etc might be in order to
facilitate the process.

Secondly, to compile a list of categories - chapter headings, if you like -
of the types of services that people might expect or require of a ready
reference style trade directory. (The directory would need updating every
couple of years or so)..

Beyond practitioner's names and qualification/contact details (latter need
not be exhaustive or even necessary, depending on service/s offered), is the
need for listing specific services (and products) which together form the
whole concept of permanent-culture. Eg teaching (of course), small block
designing, five acres, broadacres, nurseries/plant resources, solar power
suppliers, water storage and filters/drip irrigation installers,
retrofitting specialists, bushfood resources, organic pest control,
organic/integrated weed control, design for domestic animals incl poultry,
aquaculture, fire control, earth sheltered housing, soft low growing lawns
requiring only motorless mowers, low rainfall designs, cold climate designs,
tropical, endangered local native plant suppliers etc etc. If your'e
proficient at any of these (or other useful topics) then please post your
skills to this list.

If you can think of anything else at all, please send it on!

Over the next several months, I will post emails to this list of one
category at a time, to enable people to focus on specific services and
concepts, and take time to perhaps contact people they know of who
specialise in certain areas (they don't have to necessarily be teaching) and
ask if they would like to contribute or be a part of the directory.

The directory will have multiple appendices, and a comprehensive index. You
can lead a human to sustainability, but it's best to give them a darn good
roadmap!
Bioregional sub-directories will be included. I would especially like to
hear from people involved in activities on a bioregional level.

That's all for now.

Please give me FEEDBACK...or all you'll get is ......a 'Book about
Mushrooms', by Fungus the Bogeyman.

Cheers for now, Billbo's and brass monkeys!
