Thanks for that Penny
I haven't told my bioregional pc group members much, except that they need
to have done a PDC to come to the convergence, and that convergences are
fantastic & we've gotta all car pool up there and do permie field trips
along the way... and that it's in sometime March/April next year (as I
didn't write down the dates when you first posted them).
It would be good to be able to tell them abit more... to spike their
interest and make sure it's penciled into their diaries.
That it's over easter will pose some difficulty for some members of our
group, as easter (being a "tourist" town) is one of our busiest periods of
the year, and a fantastic market weekend. At that time of year, we have a
huge display of mid-season apple varieties (as one member has over 250
different varieties of apples on about 800 trees that his father planted
over 30 years). Our Easter weekend market stall is a great fundraiser for
our group, and those who are active on our market stall are also those who
are keen to come to the convergence. Unlike PN, we don't have a huge
number of members who are active in our group... most just come along to
events but rarely help out. We have a small amount of members who do heaps!
I don't feel that the organising process (of APC9) is slow... I have no
idea of what's happening (at whatever time speed)... I'm just suprised that
what PN is discussing and organising hasn't been brought to the PIL
listserv. And it can't be discussed (like the date) once it's been decided
upon.

Hello Fern, thanks for your questions and I'm sorry you feel PN hasn't been
more inclusive in APC9 at this point. Truth is Fern, we have been working
very hard on APC9 doing all the necessary preliminary things like securing
a
site, organising our own group, developing a logo and promotional material,
preparing gant charts and budgets, consulting with key individuals,
developing a website and so on. Our conveners troika has been meeting
fortnightly for a few months now but it all takes time and there are many
things to consider.
We are keen for you and everyone in the movement to be included in APC9
which I'm sure will happen in time. We plan to call for presentation papers
and discuss progress on this site in due course, when it is appropriate for
us to do so, but in the meantime please feel free to forward any
suggestions
for the event or how you would like to be included.
As mentioned on discussions lists, Tuesday 7th May, APC9 will be held over
the Easter period March 20th to 24th, 2008. It will be held at Glengarry
Training and Education Centre (a Girl Guides site) in Nth Turramurra,
Sydney. It is a beautiful site on the edge of Sydney's Ku-ring-gai National
Park that we will have exclusively to ourselves.
I hope APC9 will be a bigger convergence than normal and yes the numbers
are
certainly our greatest concern and I would be surprised if bioregional pc
groups were not telling their members about their national convergence. We
will be sending out convergence registrations early October and will be
offering early bird discounts. We trust people will register early to help
us with this so we can plan adequately for the event. I'm sorry we might be
a bit slow for you Fern but we are going about this carefully in the belief
that the process is as important as the outcome and we are doing the best
we
can.
Thanks Fern,
