A note to let you know what we’re up to this summer….
Summer days and nights at Eden
Over 8 million people have seen and experienced Eden so far, and this summer we look forward to welcoming a few more!
From July 31st – Aug 30th we’ll be open until 9.30pm (last admission at 8pm) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings with reduced admission and kids FREE after 4.30pm so that you can spend the day on the beach (if the weather ever cheers up!) and still come up and see us in the evening.
There’ll be lots of stuff for kids to do both during the day and in the evenings too with den building, trails, drumming workshops with Big Green Beat, tribal body art and loads more. We also have a zip wire running from one side of the pit to the other; so you can get a bird’s eye view of Eden. Not for the faint hearted! £10 per ride, height and weight restrictions apply. Of course there’ll be plenty for mum and dad too with fab food and a range of real ales.
Visiting us in the evening really is a special experience. We tend to be a little quieter than during the day and there’ll be music, lots of activities to wear the kids out for bedtime and a menu of their favourite food to keep them happy and give you a rest! Click here for more info.
New for 2008:
Seed
On 11th June ‘SEED’, the final piece of our education building the Core was finally lowered into place. Seed is a 70 tonne piece of granite sculpted into the shape of a seed by Peter Randall Page. The biggest single stone carving since Egyptian times! For more info click here.
The Edge
The Edge represents the next evolution of Eden. The new building will explore ideas for coping with 21st century challenges, ranging from revolutionary energy technologies to ideas about how we should live and what we should value.
Inside will be deserts, gardens, an oasis, performance space, festivals and underground chambers: a new stage to tell the stories about mankind’s past and our future. Throughout the summer we have an exhibition called Towards the Edge on site giving more information about our plans and also the partners that we work with. To find out more click here.
At the moment we have no money to build the Edge. However, The Edge is one of 6 projects competing to win £50m of construction funding from the Big Lottery as part of the People’s Millions Living Landmarks Awards. The winner will be decided via a TV vote at the end of December on ITV1.
So, to build the Edge we’ll need your vote! Click here for more info.
We look forward to seeing you this summer!
Best wishes
