Not entering into the pro- or con-rodent debate here, but, in the 
interests of avoiding poisons (and I won't use them, no matter the 
temptation when it comes to Rats) allow me to point those interested in 
the African Rat Trap -- essentially a bucket in a hole in the ground, 
some water in the bottom, and bait (carrot, peanut butter) on a wire 
across the top of the bucket.  Full details at
