That's the 'Power of Now' is it not Martin.
>From a purely permaculture perspective, I wouldn't think thought and action
can come as one. For advanced designers maybe to a certain extent but I
often think 'I want to plant a tree' but without adequate thought I plant it
in the wrong place - and who hasn't done that. In permaculture design surely
the importance of reflection and discussion can't be discounted .
I agree with you on thinking and action BUT the problem here is that if you
have not fully conquered the power of now, that is, the ability to remain
outside your mind and simply observe your thoughts whilst keeping your
emotions distanced from them (and frankly - who actually has other than the
Dalai Lama and Eckhart Tolle himself) then often some space is required to
formulate the longer term goal and move forward from there. Sometimes we
need the chats and the ability to discuss all points of view and options
before acting.
The power of now would never result in angry emails such as we regularly see
on these permaculture lists - for the power of now means accepting what is
and moving forward, not blaming the past or being tied to our own dogma -
because even these are impermanent and getting irate about things or feeling
the need to justify our own positions only causes ourselves pain, it
certainly doesn't effect positive change. Only when we do this are we
capable of a joyful existence - I do think Eckart Tolle is pretty spot on
there.
So is the ability to make the changes that most of us in permaculture see is
needed so desperately and a joyful soul (through the living in the now)
totally conflicting! I think many people would think so as we feel our anger
will ignite others to fight for a cause. But then societies most revered
humans with massive followings have been those that have not reacted
negatively to their current situation - Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, Mother
Teresa. I think a silent motivating anger is much more effective than an
outspoken, denigrating one.
Until we have conquered the power of now then we will regularly observe the
outcome of thought and action in one fluid motion. Look at the turmoil
direct action email replies have created - I think this explains what I
mean. Observing your thoughts, reminding yourself that your mind is a
powerful force for conflict and upset and then reflecting on your thoughts
before acting is the tool we need before we elevate to the level where
thinking and action can be one complete action.

Subject: [Pil-pc-oceania] dreams and work
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR BILL MOLISSION'S DREAM AND WORK?
Exactly that [before i go on i try to deal with fact and truth only ,if i
upset anyone please point out the mistake]
So to continue, dream and work are two different realities
Dreams are created by the mind by it's conditioning and it's inability to
deal with life as it happens, that is to observe it's thoughts as they occur
- if you do deal with thoughts as they occur the whole of consciousness is
exposed - this is not philosophy or dreams but a whole new dimension
Work is expending energy, work commences as soon as you wake up that is your
basic metabolic rate starts to rise, that is you are starting to expend
energy
So to combine two different realities is to introduce conflict which is a
total waste of effort and if you observe the reality of life around you and
the world you will see this conflict and confusion since the beginning of
time.
A human needs food water shelter clothing and love, i am not talking of
fragmented love a mother has for its child of family community culture but
total unconditional love
Because of the conflict created by not observing thought we develop dreams
hopes aspirations and fear and from this we act hence the present day state
of affairs where we are on the brink of almost total annihilation not only
of humans but of the whole planet
The solution to this is observe thought once thought is understood, there is
no need to think then act only direct action, that is thinking and acting
will be a complete action, as you do in an emergency situation, for example
if there is a fire in your house you act you don't sit down and have a chat
about what to do.
