 As one person pointed out, blaming rats and mice might be a miscarriage of 
justice - it could be white cockatoos.

Years ago a well-known garden personality was giving a talk at a Garden Club 
of Aust school at the Uni of Sydney, and he related the story of damage to 
roses,which he blamed on possums, so he trapped and relocated what he 
thought was an offender, only to go out and see a whole flock of sulphur 
crested cockatoos happily eating the roses.

I did have something to say about relocating possums,which are territorial, 
but in those days people were less concerned about the environment than 
flowers and $'s.
