SOUTH AUSTRALIA (and NATIONAL)
GE/GM ACTION ALERT for THIS Wednesday 7th Nov 2007 at 12 noon
Final details have not yet been organised. If you are interested and/or available, please email
Pola at amdean at adam.com.au or call 8340 0648 )till 4pm) or 8354 0640.
Greenpeace AND GeneEthics are proposing to meet SA Food Minister Rory McEwin (or visit his office
located at 25 Grenfell St, Adelaide) THIS Wednesday at 12 noon, to hand over the anti-GM postcard petitions.
1. Market sectors WANTED to attend & be VISIBLY identifiable.
Suggestion: we all wear nametags to show the market sector we are from:
eg CONSUMER GROWER CHEF MOTHER etc.
(in some instances it might be relevant to wear more than one, if representing several industries or sectors)
in order to make it evident who and what we represent.
2. Reason for this event:
The Agriculture Ministers of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia
are set to meet on Friday November 9th to decide our GM future.
Yet the Ministers will not even publish the reports of their GM crop ban reviews, received last week, let alone:
a.. respect most shoppers and farmers who want GM-free crops and foods;
b.. negotiate with the Tasmanian and WA governments which support the GM bans;
c.. heed scientific warnings that some GM foods are not safe to eat;
d.. take seriously the threats of herbicide tolerant weeds and chemical pollution; or
e.. admit Australia's reputation as a producer of clean, green foods for export will end.
Send emails to the SA Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Forests: The Hon Rory McEwen
to minister.mcewen at state.sa.gov.au
See below for contact details of the meeting this Wednesday - (replies to Pola, please).
**If you have any completed postcards:
Count them & bring them to the event on Wednesday.
[If possible, photocopy or list the details on the completed sides (so that record can be sent to GeneEthics)

Subject: GM Action this Wednesday
Importance: High
Hi All
Greenpeace has a national point of action organised from Sydney for this wednesday 12 noon to deliver around 3000 postcards to Rory McEwen ( or his office ) protesting the possible lifting of the State GE crop moratorium , can all those who would like to be a part of this vital delegation please get back to me asap ( like today monday at the latest ).
Final details have not yet been organised. Simon from Greenpeace was thinking of it being a serious event but if the feedback was that we should make it fun with people dressed in cow suits that can be arranged. This event is not going to have a Greenpeace focus, we would like it to represent the people concerned with GM. Therefore if you know any concerned farmers, chefs, mothers etc. please urge them to come, but we do numbers so please contact me asap if you can make it. Either by email or phone 8354 0640 or 8340 0648(this number is good till about 4pm today, otherwise ring the first number)
Cheers,
Pola,
SA Genetic Food Information Network (SAGFIN)
