Thanks for the info on swales and yes peak oil is awhile away yet, I was
more reflecting on how even permaculturalists seem to love jumping on
machinery to do what they need to do.  But of course, we need to adapt to
things in the future, if and when it changes.

A great example of swales is at Harmony Farm which is an organic orchard at
Canyonleigh about 1 hr from Campbelltown.  Ralph Long set up the place with
swales on contour, and there are heaps and heaps of organic fruit trees
growing and producing.

By the way, if anyone ever wants to help, there are Friends of Harmony Farm
who meet on the 3rd Sunday of the month to work on all sorts of things.
