Concrete is hard to beat in a bushfire-prone area like where I live.  
Also, I've been told that the alkaline material leaches very small  
quantities into the water, neutralising the acid that may come from  
organic matter.
	In terms of energy cost of manufacture, I don't know which is more:  
concrete or new, food grade plastic.
