DESIGNING a PERMA-CULTURE....

An AUSTRALIAN CITY FARMS & COMMUNITY GARDENS NETWORK Newsletter.

Small, flightless birds multiply under wharf
It¹s breeding time around Manly, not for people but for small aquatic birds
that can¹t fly. Yes, penguins. Their early evening landings have become
something of a spectacle here, with small crowds lining the railing near the
ferry wharf to view the creatures as they land.

The good news is that there are 21 of the little birds (type: Fairy
Penguins) spread over two landing places. Some still display their grey
early childhood plumage.

Arts in the Garden coordinator, Maery, writes...

Dear All,
Good news: a new community garden will be formed in Paddington. See this
message below from the people who've negotatied for it. Anyone who lives in
the area, it would be nice if you could affirm Woollahra Council in their
great decision.

Hi,
A propsal has just been accepted by Woollahra Council for a community garden
in Trumper Park, Paddington.

This proposal needs community support and expressions of interest have been
requested from residents, closing on December 4th 2007.

All the information is now on the Woollahra Council's website:
www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au <http://www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au/> .

We hope you will indicate your support. Please ask friends and neighbours
also if you think they would be interested. The more the better!

Kind regards,
Rob and Vicki Joyner

Take care and enjoy your life

NINTH QUEENSLAND COMMUNITY GARDENS AND CITY FAARMS NETWORK GATHERING

The following communique has been received from Growing Commuities in
Brisbane...

The gathering was held at Beelarong Community Farm, Morningside, on Saturday
September 29th, 2007.

About 35 people from a range of gardening projects in South-East Queensland
attended. It was a great day with lots of value for everyone. We have had
some excellent and positive feedback. The worskhops on funding
opportunities and starting up a community garden were well received. The
presentations on urban farming in Hong Kong and Britain were most inspiring.

Thanks Beelarong for hosting the event. Alot of people commented on the
tucker. The food was truly superb!

Growing Communities, West End Qld 4101.

All,

Here's a fantastic opportunity to be part of the organising team for the
next Community Gardenings gathering, number 10.

The gathering will be held about May 2008. To build a strong network it
would be great if a team of people formed from a few different projects. Its
a great opportunity to learn more about the network and the exciting things
that are happening in Community Gardens at the moment. And it will improve
your sex life, guaranteed!!

Also, we are looking for a project to host the event.

And additionally, we are trying to find ways of funding the travel expenses
of community gardeners in remote areas of the state. Any ideas?

And in addition to that we would like to get your ideas about what the event
could be about, how long and where?

Please if anyone would like to be part of the QCG10 organising team let us
know. The more people and energy we get the better the event will be.

Best wishes
