Hi All,
Just letting you know that ABC TV's Difference of Opinion program
tonight (9.25pm) is going to be on Food Security in the face of drought,
as per the email below. Hopefully the capacity studio audience will
include some permies - when I called to try to book a place this morning
(no luck, they were booked out), I was told in all likelihood it will.
Tell your friends and family about this one - it's a crucial issue that
we need to come to grips with. I have even heard on the grapevine of a
report or article in which people from the market garden industry have
said that home food gardens may/will become crucial in future (hearsay
though - can anyone confirm and give references?).
cheers All,
Kerry Dawborn

*Subject:* Invitation to Studio debate - Difference of Opinion ABC TV
As you know, we are in the midst of the worst drought on record and for
many food producers, the outlook is grim. Would importing more food
help solve the problem? Perhaps we should be paying more for food.
Should we by trying different methods of farming? What sort of impact
would genetically modified crops make?
What do you think?
On Thursday October 4, ABC TV's Difference of Opinion program will bring
together an expert panel to analyse this issue and ask whether we should
scale down agricultural production altogether, or perhaps go north,
maybe with GM crops.
We would like to invite individuals with an interest in this area to
join our studio audience and have the chance to watch the debate,
express an opinion or ask a question of the panel. You would need to be
at the ABC studios at 8 Gordon Street, Elsternwick by 5:45pm. And we're
all done by 7:30.
If you would like to join us, that would be great. And do feel free to
forward this email to your members - they are most welcome to get in
touch with me directly to book a place in the debate to have their say.
Kind regards
Alison Kenter
