I am pleased to announce that PIL have entered into an association with
David Arnold to produce a yearly Australian Permaculture Calendar.
The calendar will be based on the 12 permaculture design principles
[Holmgren 2002], Each month the calendar photo, with accompanying brief
text, will be used to illustrate the design principle for that month. This
will be done using pc examples submitted from around Australia, with an
attempt made to give reasonably proportional [by population] coverage across
the states and territories, across urban and rural projects, and with a
range of garden /landscape development and more directly social/ people
topics.
The calendar will also serve to broaden the exposure of permaculture
projects beyond a few well publicised ones. A mix of better known and
little known projects can be included each year. 12 main photos every year
will be a lot of exposure for projects across the country. At the end of
the calendar will be a contacts page for pc groups across the country and
PIL, photo credits, acknowledgements, some basic pc info, etc..
With 100% recommended retail mark-up the calendar should be a really good
fund-raising item for pc groups to sell [in the time leading up to
Christmas]. And of course individuals are also invited to retail the
calendar at market stalls and elsewhere.
The calendar depends on the support of the Australian pc community for
submission of projects / photos, and for distribution and marketing. I am
pleased that David has chosen to work with PIL, so that the calendar can as
it becomes viable give a financial return to the Australian collective pc
body.
For those who don't know David Arnold, he is a long time permie [pdc with
Robyn Francis, Toolangi, Vic, 1991], designer, treegrower, consultant,
teacher, and now calendar producer.
For the 2008 calendar, David says he would still like to discuss potential
photos with permies from Tasmania, WA, NT, ACT, and North Qld. To discuss
potential photos, or order copies to sell, contact David at
