Hi Deb
Robyn Clayfield and I did the first women¹s PDC in 1993 teachers were Lea
Harrison, Judith Thurley and Suzi Edwards. Most of us atended the IPC1 at
Pappinbarra in 84. I later co-taught a women¹s PDC with Lea in the USA in
1986, and she taught a couple of others. The main drive with most of those
early courses was to even up numbers so that pc didn¹t end up a
male-dominated movement. Over my years of teaching since then I¹ve found the
numbers pretty balanced, some courses have more women, some have more men.
The convergence program was very lean re female presenters which inspired
some of the younger women to reinstate the women¹s PDC tradition.
BTW there wasn¹t anything different about the PDC¹s except that they were
all female participants and trainers and run on a shoestring budget. They
key difference was the presence of children as these courses provided
childcare, an inhibiting factor for many mothers wanting to do a course.
Ciao
Robyn
