hi tamara
please tell me if i sound preachy or do worse for your mood...
but do appreciate that you have a partner that at least has kept your
plants and chooks alive...
i wish i had a partner... i just come home to dead and overgrown things :(

Your entries in the Bunyip show sounded great... our agricultural show
didn't go ahead this year as it was lacking enough volunteer committee
members.
The women's PDC sounds good. I'd be happy to be a part of it. Beck Lowe
is well versed in fencing.
love
Fern

Now that I have recovered from APC9 and made it through the 109th Bunyip
Show, there is no excuse for bad mood except lack of permies (and that my
partner has lost the watering can and my carrot seedlings are unhappy...he
also underfed the chooks and they stopped laying for a few
days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(having said that, I did see 4 permie friends at the show, but its not
really the same).

The Bunyip show was good. I won biggest pumpkin with my Atlantic Giant
which was a bit of a coup, as the same bloke wins everything every year. I
also won best culinary herbs, best climbing beans (picked hastily after a
search for things to enter) and I entered a sunflower in single bloom, not
otherwise mentioned and it won. So after 3 2nd places last year, I got 4
firsts this year. I took the pumpkin down on friday in the wheelbarrow (we
don't have a car) and created quite a stir. I am giving away free seed from
the pumpkin to get a bit of a fun comp happening next year. It was soooo
much fun watching this giant thing grow - but I must admit that the tank
water was probably wasted on it - its worth it if it helps build community.

We also ran traditional races - 3 legged race, egg (duck) and spoon, sack
races, with the young girls up the street. They had a great time (i did
too, but I am very clumsy in a sack) and we've been asked to do it again. I
am hoping they'll need less and less help each year...

I have asked some friends about an old house on their property (they were
thinking of doing it up as a B&B) as to whether it could become a permie
education place - our place is too small for the number of people at a
women's PDC). It is walking distance from Bunyip train station...They are
interested, so we'll see.

Much love to you all,
T
