Subject: Re: [Pil-pc-oceania] Russ Grayson Contact

Hi Darren...
Presently, I'm transcribing the notes made by participants on their sheets
of flip chart paper at the APC9 permaculture history evening sessions.

That's going ok, but I have found much to follow up on because some of the
notes mean something only to those who wrote them. They need considerable
fleshing out and clarification.

Here's my little project schedule:

1. Transcribe notes made by APC9 permaculure history session participants.

Status: Transcription underway.

Estimated completion: Late this week.

Note: Email transcription to Permaculture North for inclusion in APC9
proceedings, as requested.

2. Email transcribed notes to contacts in the regions, asking for:

A) more detail on specific points about events/developments etc
B) dates for some events.

Timeline: Soon as participant notes transcribed. Probably next week.

Note: The quality of responses to this will strongly influence the end
product.

3. Add details received to existing participant notes.

Timline: Soon as responses received.

4. Write up as media product:

I haven't decided upon a format yet but it could be:

A) Narrative
B) Regionally based
C) Chronoligical within regions.

No title for it yet as that will be influenced by the quality of responses
for further information from participants in regions.

There are a couple regions missing from the info collection: Brisbane,
Perth/WA.

An observation: going by what people recorded on their pages, permaculture
Australia-wide has a record of trialing ideas and of achievement. Much has
been learned that could, for instance, feed into a transition towns format
for regional development.

IDEAS
What would be useful would be recording the stories of specific people
within permaculture to add to the work and to draw quotes/instances from
their material to illustrate points in the final product.

1. If you are interested in producing more info from your region, then
please feel free to do so. Ideas:

- what was done in permaculture, by whom, for whom and with what result
- anecdotes - instructive, tragic, humourous etc regarding permaculture
- what has been learned from the practice of permaculture in your region
- thoughts on the permaculture system and its practice - what has been
learned/what worked/what didn't work and why/what needs to be done
- and so on and similar.

A reasonable level of detail helps to make sense of these things for people
without knowledge of them.

2. If you are interested in telling your story in permaculture, then topics
to address could include:

1. How, why and when you started in permaculture.

- Did you do a PDC or some other training?

2. What people/books/ideas influenced you in permaculture.

3. What you found challenging about permaculture and its ideas/methods.

4. What areas you make use of permaculture ideas/principles in and how
useful you find them.

5. What areas of permaculture you think could do with further development or
downplaying.

6. How being a permaculture practitioner/educator/communicator/advocate
'feels' on the subjectve level.

7. How does permaculture influence the way you think/perceive the world and
topical issues: positive/negative/optimistic/pessimistic/hopeful/etc - and
why do you think this is?

8. How could permaculture improve its contribution to the world?

Anyone on this listserv might do the above, adding ideas they see as
relevant to readers.

Thanks for your comments Darren.

...Russ
