Hello, I don't have local figures but from a global perspective a reasonable
place to start is the UNFAO bi-monthly Crop Prospects and Food Situation
report.
http://www.fao.org/giews/english/cpfs/
Australian end-of-season grain stocks (mainly wheat) for the last 5 years
are...
2003 5.2 million tonnes
2004 8.8
2005 10.0
2006 13.6
2007 6.0 (estimate)
2008 5.7 (predicted)
If you want some scary numbers, you can use the global stored grain and
consumption stats from the same report to calculate (very broadly) how many
days we are from an empty global grain pantry...
2005/06 84 days
2006/07 75 days, change from previous year -10%
2007/08 69 days, change from previous year -8%
Yes 2006/07 was tough, and the 2007/08 global grain supply is estimated to
be higher, but consumption has grown and will again outpace supply.
Cheers, Andrew
