Right on Ian, zero carbon is a furphy for starters, although I'm not
sure what the closing statement in the "green city" article means:
"We will monetise all carbon emission reductions... Such innovative
financing has never been applied to the scale of an entire
city." ... Masdar City CEO, Sultan al-Jaber
Sounds to me like the same old myth that simply turns carbon into a
kind of invisible commodity for trading and doesn't sequester one
single molecule of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in the
process. In fact it probably achieves the opposite by providing
billion dollar opportunities for technocrats and economic
rationalists to spin their magic solutions (not) therby giving them a
licence to continue with grossly over-consumptive lifestyles.
