> 1. How much land do you use and where is the place?
8 hectares, North east Victoria, Australia
2. Where from do you get water and what techniques do you use for that?
for irrigation, urban stormwater run-off, as am just downstream of a small
country town. presently pumping out of a creek into a 6 Ml dam also some
runoff from fields upstream enters this little creek
for household, from collected roof run-off water
> 3. How do you irrigate?
for home garden, hand held hose
for tree crops, micro-sprinklers under each tree operated at evenings, about
once a week or every 5 days
> 4. What kind of toilet do you use?
presently have a flush toilet, planning to install a compost toilet soon
5. How do you manage your wastewater?
all household water including the outflow of water from the septic settling
tank is directed to a hose that i move around the fruit trees
6. How long does your water storage last, and what techniques do you use?
dam water needs to replenished at least every second year. lose approx 2m
per year to evaporation
roof water storage is ample to keep up with demand. if it didn't rain to
replenish the storage, the large storage would keep the house supplied for
about 2 years
> 7. What do you pay for installation and maintenance of the techniques?
just maintenance of infrastructure, hand maintenance of the earth dam, small
motor maintenance of the large pump that fills the dam and the small pump
that supplies the tree crops, etc.
8. What are you planning to change in the future?
install leaky weir in the creek to cause the creek to overflow more often
into the wetland forest i have created, from which i can pump water to fill
the dam
plan to introduce dry composting toilet, wind pump to move water from dam to
static header tank on tank stand, steam powered pump to fill big dam from
flood storage in wetland forest,
