Yes, Australian domain names of .com.au and .net.au need to be registered
businesses.  But this may not be so for Chinese domain names, as the domain
name regulations differ for each country.

Have you tried to trademark "permaculture.com.au" Robyn?
eg. The word "Shopping" could not be trademarked, but "shopping.com" has
been trademarked as a word.
I'm not sure of China's trademark regulations and if they are similar to
Australia's or abide by the Madrid International trademark regulations
