Hello Mark,

Yes, I am working with Pola (and possibly others) from SAGFIN to formulate a submission.

Congratulations on all of the hard work you done on this issue which has reaped a fabulous reward.

I regard the next two years not as a time to rest on our laurels, but rather as a golden window of opportunity in which to work to spread the word regarding the risks of genetic plant modification and continue to commmunicate and educate the public to resist the push for GM crops.

I do have 100 (or so) copies of Jeffrey Smith's latest book 'Genetic Roulette' if anyone is interested. I will be trying to get them into bookstores.

Also have plans to begin a 'Food Lover's Book Club' to meet quarterly, and also to have regular meetings of all anti-GM campaigners in SA (SAGFIN, Greenpeace, Soil Assocn, etc).

If you know of anyone or any consumer or other organisation who may be interested in any of these activities, please pass on this email to them and your networks.

It is time to consolidate our gains.....and push for better food labelling.

Please keep me posted on future developments on this and related issues.

As Jeffrey Smith says: "Safe eating!"

Thanking you in anticipation,

Yours etc.,

Deb Guildner

Subject: GM Crops moratorium - submissions by 21/3/08

  Dear Deb

As you may already know, the State Government recently announced a proposal to extend the moratorium prohibiting the growing of genetically modified food crops in SA, which would otherwise expire on 29th April 2008. The Greens have been working with the community, campaigning to oppose GM crops in SA, and believe an extension of the current moratorium would be a great result for SA. The NSW and Victorian Governments have decided not to extend their moratoria and allow commerical GM crops to be grown, which now leaves SA, WA and Tasmania as the only clean & green GM-free States.

On the 8th of February I issued a Media Release welcoming the announcement. Click here for a copy.

  LODGE A SUBMISSION
The public consultation period is now underway and interested persons are invited to lodge submissions in writing to the Minister of Agriculture, Food & Fisheries, Hon Rory McEwan. Click here for further details.

The closing date for submissions is 5.00pm on Friday 21st March 2008.

  Submissions can be -
a.. mailed to GPO Box 668, Adelaide, SA 5001
    b.. faxed to 8226 0316
    c.. emailed to pirsa.ministers at state.sa.gov.au
For further information contact John Cornish at PIRSA on 8207 2361 or 0401 121 910, or download a copy of the Proposal to Make Regulations Pursuant to the Genetically Modified Crops Management Act 2004.

For more information about GM (or GE) foods you can visit the South Australia's Genetic Food Information Network website or Greenpeace's website.

  Kind regards

  Mark Parnell
