I imagine there are alot of Permies who have worked in warzones, the third world and places of extreme devastation like after the Tsunami.

Having worked in what I call Third-world Australia, (as a blight on the government, not on the people who are doing their best to live on or near their country), I wonder how we (as permies) cope. I certainly stopped coping after 2 years in Halls Creek in the Kimberleys, despite very strong links to local people. I suppose lots of us are on a mission to make the world a better place, and that sustains us...
