I assume it's the same with windows computers as with Apple... you can set
the timing to blank the screen and powerdown the hard drive and put the
device into quiescence via your preferences panel controls.
As for Internet telephony, the phone should work anywhere it detects an open
wifi network. You can now get handsets that look like mobile phones that you
can connect wherever there is municipal wifi or an open channel around town.
