No problem with this one!!
.
Does anyone know how much power an idling PC uses? One with the screen turned OFF that is...jusr the hard drive running..
I am constantly wrangling with my 20 year old about not turning off her PC when she is asleep or away. She gets really annoyed with me when I turn it off, lol. She says she wont get her "instant' messages via MSN. Say I: " Well, if youre away for four days theyre not very instant, are they? Why not email instead?" Its very addictive for the younger generation (and even some of the elders)....
I am often too busy or away from home and do not access emails.....moving house three times in six months meant that it was not set up for weeks at a time. Its always good to know we can live without stuff...
Just made my first internet phone call...very good sound quality too. Looking forward to reduced phone costs now. Apparently the PC doesnt need to be turned on to call either, but I havent tried that yet.. If the telecommunications revolution isnt here yet, then it probably isnt coming.
Cheers
Deb

Subject: [Pil-pc-oceania] international computer shutdown day - thisSaturday May 3rd
not strictly permie.. but i know everyone who is reading this can participate!
This Saturday, May 3rd, is International Shutdown Day.
http://www.shutdown.org/
"It is obvious that without computers we would find our life extremely difficult, maybe even impossible.
If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?
Be part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the Internet.
The idea behind Shutdown Day is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!
Shutdown your computer on 03 May 2008 and find out!"

Fact: To manufacture a 3 tonne car requires 50 tonnes of raw material.
Fact: In your lifetime you will eat 50 tonnes of food and produce 3 tonnes of poo :)
