That would be the ACPI function which is normally on by default so
nobody ever usually needs to go in there. What the desktop pc may not
be able to do is deep hibernation or complete shutdown. If it's on
windows the power options in the control panel let you tinker with
powering down drives after a certain idle time aswell as the monitor
of course. Even though they may be a bit more expensive it's much more
efficient to use a laptop or if she is just browsing her myspace and
facebook, some word processing, some MSN and even digital tv one of
those little 8W linutop's would be sufficient.

I'm registering for nodephone after a huge stuff around with tpg
because they give you only one decent usage plan to be on and I had to
cancel it to get the net back from being shaped. Nodephone have a $10
a month service which gives you a 'landline' number to accept calls
aswell as make outgoing but trying just outgoing for now. My billion
modem has preset VOIP profiles for both engin and nodephone.
