My contribution is brief, apologies if I offend.  

Great that the debate still rages.  How about either : 
(a) those who want to continue this debate create an off list email loop and report back
here when the decision is made, 
Or
(b) some individual just gets on and decides that is happening, works it all out and
let's us know?

Either way, I will be using the delete button from here on when I see 'national day'
