I'm working on a project (with Adam Moore) of audio/visual recording our
elders in our region.  The "elders" in this case are those who lived in the
time before the oil age.  They have stories about the area, and how the
township survived, what materials and tools they used, how they travelled,
how they supplied food to the area, and what knowledge they can pass down
to those who have only lived in the age of oil abundance.  There's many
people in our community; farmers, indigenous elders, those who have lived
here since birth.  Younger people in the community are interviewing the
elders that they know well.
This project has stemmed from the disappointment I felt in not having
enough stories and no sound recordings of my dad after he passed away
earlier this year.  The valuable knowledge of our elders shouldn't be
forgotten and may come to be very useful in the near future.
