There are many BD websites out there and email lists. I will ask on the BDNow list that I am a member of.

As a farmers daughter I watched dehorning many many times. The cows certainly don't like it and blood spurts out everywhere but it didn't seem to cause any ongoing pain... but honestly, how would I know what the cows were feeling.

I do know that some of the people practicing biodynamics are potentially the most sensitive and caring people around so the answer to this will be very interesting. BD people that keep cows ALWAYS keep the horns on them as they are not complete without them. Thus I assume the answer will be that the horns are from dead cows... but I will send the question now and get back when I have an answer.
