  Hi Tim,

thanks for your email. I'll try to find a bike-hike from Byron site for
you. Do meditate on N.Ocean Shores as a possibility. Also, would you in
principal support an effort to establish such a venture, even if yours is in
the South of the Shire?

Lets keep in touch, the times they are a changing. Thank goodness.

  cheers David.

    Hi David,

I agree we need to step up the process of educating ourselves re peak
oil and climate change and other limits to growth. At the moment we are
looking for a venue that is bicycle distance from or in Byron, has a big
indoor space for project work and an outdoor space for a big garden/city
farm.

    Got any ideas?

    Tim

Hi Tim and all else, health and well being to you.

I support the move, great idea.

Co-incidentally, now listen up; A few of us were discussing the move
by millionaires and Byron Council to put Australia's largest rock music
venue in North Ocean Shores, Byron Shire. We dont want it. We also came up
with this idea, that what we need is an education centre for Global
Warming-Climate Change-Peak Oil-Energy Descent-Sustainability Awareness.
This could offer on site live-in training to Aussies or o/s visitors, from
w/end to 1 week to 1 month to 1 term.....get the idea? Where did I get this
idea? Hmm. Rock concerts aren't sustainable, the human race needs to be.
Imagine folks (after a while of surfing etc. in Byron) training up and
returning to Chicago, Hamburg, Melbourne, Ballina etc aware of retro-fitting
their patch as the hungry days dawn. What do you think? It would be an
amazing contribution to this area and humanity, and, as you know,
imperative.

There are various people round here excited by the idea; and the Mayor
and some Councillors are coming to the next Ocean Shores Community Meeting,
Monday 26th March. This idea will be put to them- are ya green or are ya
green?

Let me know your thoughts, great man, what fun we can have!

      All the best,

      David.

        Hi Mark,

Good to hear from you mate and that you are going well down in
Canberra. Thanks for being supportive of our move. There are a lot of folks
who see the upside of the change. Of course there is the heart connection-
and disconnection- from the land. This is the hardest part, but we have put
out for good stewards to follow us and keep up the restoration work.

It is not too late to start the course, and we would love to have
you with us again.

We are planning to put together a Diploma program focused on
training Post Carbon Transition/Relocalization professionals if that
interests you. Any input here would be great.

        Cheers,

        Tim

Hi Tim & Nicole & Asha,

If you could move the current trust land to within a stones throw
of a major town then that would be perfect I gather.

I think its a practicle/sensible move and I can see the advantages
in moving. I would assume that the land we be taken over by someone with
the right interests and utilised so all that hard work wont go to waste.

It would be a great thing for permaculture & society to have your
ideas, workshops, and skills more accessible and they will be invaluable in
their applications to the urban environment.

I will think more about what scope/possibilities I see in being in
a new location at Byron Bay and get back to you if an intelligent ideas
arise in my mindspace. (so don't expect too much!)

All is well in Canberra,...but another stint of permaculture one
day near the sea sounds very appealing!

ps. I have a good friend who is interested in doing permaculture
training this year ASAP. Her name is Sarah and she is right into the whole
sustainability thing and excellent fun. Will the course be running at
Barkers Vale for the duration of this year? Is it too late to get on the
course now?

          Cheers,

          mark

            Hi all,

We have made a major decision to relocate the Trust's
sustainability training program to Byron Bay. With climate change and energy
decent becoming major issues the Trust is going to focus on community
strategies and programs for post carbon transition. There are other aspects
to the decision, like being able to scale up the training program, give
students more options for training, work and play and a desire to move on
after 10 years at Barkers Vale and get back onto the leading edge of
sustainability work with our hard won experience.

The hardest part of all this is leaving the land. I know some of
you will find this hard to imagine and it has been a real struggle for
Nicole and I, but with a young family our lives have migrated to the
suburbs. And so has our work with the Trust.

There hasn't been any discussion on this list yet, but I'm keen
to hear what you all have to say about our big move and the possibilities
that it offers for making the program more relevant in these very
interesting times.

            Cheers,

            Tim
