[Trusties] Fw: Community-gardens Digest, Vol 5, Issue 10

Hi David,
I think creating a Diploma program that focuses on community, relocalization
and post carbon strategies will offer a whole new relevance for
permaculture. It has the chance to reinvent itself in a way, or to transcend
to a level with a whole new focus on the 'culture' part of permaculture.
I be writing a discussion paper along these lines sometime soon. I could
post drafts here for comment if folks are interested.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi, I like the sound of the post carbon Diploma training.
David.

Hi Kerry,
The way the 'Trusties' list (that you and I are posting to now) is set
up, is that when you hit 'reply' in your email program, it puts the list
address in the 'To:' field. So, I am replying to your post and the whole
list will get this email. If you want to reply privately to the person who
posted to the list, then you need to click on their email address rather
than hit 'reply'. The list is set up for public conversations amongst list
members- mostly members, students, past students and folks who take enough
interest in what we are doing to join in on discussions about the Trust and
the folks participating in its activities.
I have been reluctant to try and base the program at Island Quarry
precisely because it has not developed very far in twelve years. The
feedback I'm getting is that the leaders in control of the project are
difficult to work with. I don't think it is possible to buy the lease- I'm
sure it would not be transferable by the lessee, but it would be possible
for members to elect new members to the board who may take the organization
in a different direction.
It would be great to have you back up in this neck of the woods again.
I'll keep my ears open for positions that might suit you.
As an aside we are going to base our Diploma program here in Byron on
training relocalization and post carbon transition professionals who work at
the community level. The idea is to skill people up to get jobs as council
development officers and to work for various change agent organizations. We
will most likely base it on some foundation training (one day a week for 12
weeks) and project work through self directed study as a volunteer or
employee in related sustainability projects.
Cheers,
Tim

Gday Tim
Thanks for your emails..I actually think you may have accidentally
included me on your David Hall emails as I seem to be getting ones addressed
to him?? I am intrigued by your intention to move. From a lifestyle and
financial point of view I think its a great idea, I guess Im a bit sad to
see that beautiful place go (it was a nice dream to make an eco-village near
the border ranges). Have you approached the Island Quarry in regards to
starting your courses there? Its seems like the logical place. I know that
the guy leasing it now has long term plans for the site, but keep in mind
that he has been sitting on it for 12 years without it progressing far!. I
see big potential for that site and it would be ideal for what you plan on
doing..if you have the capital I would buy out his lease?.
Anyhow I hope its all going well & that your family are well..when is
Nicole due? Best wishes for all your changes.
Regards
Kerry
p.s please keep in touch as I enjoy hearing whats happening with
Permaculture & its not un-feasonable that I may return to Byron shores if
there was a suitable employment position available, such a beautiful place
that Im finding I am missing it often.
Take care!
