Permaforest Trust September 2007 Update

Hi Folks,

We're halfway through our final semester of Accredited Permaculture Training
(APT) for 2007 and it appears that we've got some great future
sustainability leaders and educators amongst the students. We just hosted
our second and final Weekend Getaway for the year, with a full house and fun
had by all. Guests were given the opportunity to learn bush regen, trellis
making, summer crop planting and potting on in the nursery. Find below the
other highlights at Permaforest Trust from the last month by topic.

2008 Accredited Permaculture Training Program

· Tim Winton interviewed on Global Public Media - Tim Winton, Trustee
and founder of the Permaforest Trust, speaks with Andi Hazelwood on Global
Public Media about training 'post carbon professionals' in The Permaforest
Trust's 2008 Byron Bay Accredited Permaculture Training program. The link to
the audio interview is:

Trust Stuff:

· October 25 2007 - "Pathways to a Low Carbon Future - We Can Do
It" community information night at Byron Community and Cultural Centre. The
Ethos Foundation, Permaforest Trust and Ebono Institute have joined forces
to deliver Pathways to a Low Carbon Future, a forum at the Byron Community
Cultural Centre on Thursday, October 25th. Recent developments highlighting
the effects of peak oil and climate change include predictions of food
shortages by former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson; the tacit admission
of immanent peak oil by recent reports by the International Energy Agency
and the National Petroleum Council; the sub prime mortgage market meltdown
and its effects on the valuation of the US dollar. The pace of 'carbon
issue' related changes are speeding up and it is time to start taking
positive and proactive measures as a community. The forum will discuss
emerging issues, threats and opportunities, the urgency for change, the
community change experiences of the Beaudesert Shire across the border in
Queensland and the 2020 Vision for the Wollumbin Caldera.

 · Cam Wilson, a PFT graduate has provided us with some great
Permaculture resources. Topics include: swales, frost protection, using
Australian native species in PC designs, organic pest control, and more!

so join us on Saturday, November 24th. The theme is Mad Maxine, so start
