Hi everyone
this sounds like an amazing job, developing
permaculture in schools and communities in Tonga.
Please forward to anyone who might be interested. For
more info contact Sara <saragloede at yahoo.com>
Kim

Info from Sara:

I have attached the Job Description for the position.
Basically three of the major high schools have agreed
to allocate space and curriculum time. Obesity is a
really big problem here in Tonga, but the cost of
healthy foods is a real barrier to changing what
people eat. However, all families have a bush
allotment (given by the King) where they can grow
food, so the potential for Permaculture is HUGE. We
are really hoping to encourage creating more diversity
in what is grown and also reduce pesticide use etc.
With some of the schools we would encourage you to
work with the Home Ec student also, to show healthy
ways to use types of produce that may not be eaten
much here in Tonga.
During school holidays there is some Co-ops that are
encouraging organics, so we would perhaps look at the
Permaculture person working with them.
It is a very laid back lifestyle here, and Poly
culture is very inclusive if you want to get involved!

We have some flexibility at the moment in that if
someone over 30 (and therefore ineligible for the AYAD
program) is keen, we can bring them in on the ViDA
program - also an AusAid program.
It will be such a fun, rewarding job!

Malo 'aupito
